We're pleased to offer the following services:

FOOD PANTRY

Assistance with food is offered once per month to clients experiencing food insecurity due to financial constraints. Currently, we offer a “super-market” model of client choice. Simply put, we have set up our food in 6 distinct categories: grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy, protein, and combination foods. Based on the number of people living in each household, clients may choose a pre-determined amount of product in each category. They can choose corn over peas or pasta over rice, etc. This model upholds the dignity of our clients, making it more like a shopping experience, and limits food waste - clients take food they will use and leave the rest for others. In addition, we also offer toiletries such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, and toilet paper. We receive about 80% of our items from Foodlink, our area’s food bank. The rest of the items come as a result of donations from local companies, local farms, churches, and school groups.

CLOTHING SHELF

Assistance with clothing is also offered once per month. Due to the significant generosity of our community, we are able to offer a large selection of quality “lightly-used” clothes and some, new-with-tags. We strive to offer only quality clothing that is both “in-season” and “in-style.” Currently, we are limiting the number of clothing items to 6 pieces per person in the household; however, this is subject to change based upon availability.

VET2VET

The purpose of this group is to provide a forum for veterans to connect with other veterans who have been or are going through similar life challenges. We endeavor to facilitate a re-acclimation to civilian life by working through the unique issues that a veteran faces. We accomplish this through guest lecturers, group discussion, and/or one-on-one discussion. All veterans are welcome to participate to the degree that he or she feels comfortable. We believe that real, lasting change can only come through a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ. This event is “hosted” by Mike & Mary Burns.  Beverages and snacks are served. This group currently meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month at Mission Share.  Click here to see our brochure.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL OUTREACH

Since 2005, Mission Share has provided needy school children in the Town of Greece School District with backpacks filled with school supplies, a Bible, and a kid-friendly Gospel tract. Typically, we offer these backpacks to the first 500 students that apply. The distribution of these backpacks occurs in late August or early September before school begins. Mission Share purchases the backpacks in early Spring, and collection of school supplies from individuals begins in late July. We are incredibly grateful for donors such as Wegmans Food Markets, who donated $2,500 for the purchase of the backpacks this year (2011).

THANKSGIVING OUTREACH

Each Thanksgiving, Mission Share distributes food baskets filled with a turkey (or ham), potatoes, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, fruit, vegetables, and apple or pumpkin pie to around 100 needy families in our service area. Volunteers assemble the baskets and distribute them the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  Many years, different Scout Troops and families get involved with packing and distributing and, even occasionaly, baking goodies for each family.

CHRISTMAS HOPE

Each Christmas, Mission Share matches sponsor families with families in our community who are struggling financially. These sponsors provide a gift for each family member and food for a Christmas meal. Mission Share has the responsibility to interview, screen, verify, and select the families to receive help. Advertising for this program begins in October, with interviews beginning the second week of November. Once a family has been approved to receive assistance, their contact information, along with their gift wish list and sponsor instructions is forwarded along to the sponsor family by Thanksgiving.

C.E.R.T.

The Mission Share Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) is equipped to provide short-term assistance to those in need due to weather, fire, or natural disaster. These team members have been professionally trained at Monroe County’s Public Safety Training Facility on Scottsville Rd. across from the airport. The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
